Taipei, Taiwan, April 20, 2005 -- Areca Technology Corporation, today announced that its SATA ll RAID driver has been integrated directly into the FreeBSD kernel 5.4 (and later), allowing future versions of FreeBSD operating systems to support Areca's entire family PCI-X and PCI-Express series of high performance SATA ll RAID controllers.
The source code for Areca's FreeBSD drivers will be released as part of all new FreeBSD kernels, and is also available on the company's web site at http://www.areca.com.tw
Areca engineer has experienced in providing SCSI driver to the FreeBSD community for several years, but for the first time, now is having its RAID drivers embedded in the FreeBSD kernel, as has been done with its SCSI host adapter drivers (AMD.C) since 1995. The release of new open-source drivers enables developers to create and share new drivers for Areca controllers. Customer can access the latest available Areca open source code, Driver Package, RAID GUI base on FreeBSD Web browser, CLI, and Development Library for System conformity, to modify drivers and create new applications that support other distributions. Areca is providing its driver source code under the BSD open license, the same software license using for the FreeBSD kernel. |
