Taipei, Taiwan, March 8, 2005 -- Areca Technology Corporation, today announced that its Serial ATA ll RAID driver has been integrated directly into the Linux kernel 2.6.11-rc3-mm1 (and later), allowing future versions of Linux operating systems to support Areca's entire family PCI-X and PCI-Express series of high performance SATA ll RAID controllers.
The source code for Areca's Linux drivers will be released as part of all new Linux kernels, and is also available on the company's web site at http://www.areca.com.tw. Being part of the standard Linux kernel means that Areca's drivers will become included in all the Linux distributions, including Red Hat, SuSE, TurboLinux, Debian, and Mandrake.
Areca Engineer has well experienced in providing SCSI driver to the Linux community for several years, but, for the first time, is now having its RAID drivers embedded in the Linux kernel, as has been done with its SCSI host adapter drivers (TMSCSIM.C) since 1995. The release of new open-source drivers enables developers to create and share new drivers for Areca controllers. Customer can access the latest available Areca open source code, open source code, Driver Package , RAID GUI base on Linux Web browser ,CLI , and Development Library for System conformity, to modify drivers and create new applications that support other distributions. Areca is providing its driver source code under the GPL license, the same software license using for the Linux kernel.
The Areca PCI-X and PCI-Express SATA RAID controller comes in 4, 8, 12, and 16-port configurations, but it promises to be much faster and to boast other improvements than competitors, such as RAID 6, and SATA ll support. The new controllers are designed to support the 64-bit computing applications. They support single volume set greater than 2TB via 64-bit LBAs on one controller. |
